Udbhav Sports and Cultural Association was founded on 21. 09. 1997. At that time it was known as Gwalior Institutional Sports Association. Today Udbhav Sports and Cultural Association is celebrating its Silver Jubilee and it is a matter of great pride and joy for all of us to note that the association has made tremendous impact at national and international levels in the fields of sports and culture.
In 1997 a few friends who had a great passion for sports came together and decided to have an association for sports and culture. The purpose was to give a platform to the children of the employees of the government as well as quasi-government organizations in the Gwalior- Chambal Division to display their talents in the fields of sports and culture.
Subsequently, Gwalior Institutional Sports Association was born under the patronage of the then DIG of Gwalior, Mr. Nandan Dubey and the Municipal Commissioner of Gwalior Akhilendra Arjaria. Senior journalist and noted social activist, Dr. Keshav Pandey was the first president of Gwalior Institutional Sports Association.
Initially competitions in the fields of Carrom, Table Tennis and Chess were held. Late Srimanth Madhav Rao Scindia was the Chief Guest of the inaugural prize distribution ceremony. His Highness was highly impressed with the activities of the association and with his blessings and under his patronage the association expanded its areas and fields of activities.
By the year 2000, the association had caught the attention of many people, especially the youth of Gwalior and they became part of it. Soon cultural activities and drawing competitions too became part of the association’s areas of involvement. Around this time many of us felt that the association should have a proper name that would catch the attention of sports and cultural enthusiasts. After much deliberation we agreed on the name proposed by the senior member of the association, late Komal Kalyan Jain and thus was born Udbhav Sports and Cultural Association. This name soon caught the attention of sports and cultural fans at national as well as international levels.
Currently, Udbhav Sports and Cultural Association is making giant strides in the fields of sports and culture under the benevolent patronage of Union Minister, Sri Jyotiraditya Scindia. Every year about 400 to 500 international and 1500 national artists participate in various cultural activities under the banner of Udbhav Sports and Cultural Association. Last year artists from Greece, France, Russia, Italy, Spain, Israel, Iran , South Korea, China, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Egypt, Kirgizstan, Slovakia, Siberia, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh came to Gwalior to demonstrate their talents.
The participation of noted national artists like, Padma Vibhushan Late Pandit Birju Maharaj, Padma Vibhushan Dr. Radha Raja Reddy, Padma Vibhushan, Sonal Man Singh, Padma Vibhushan Swapna Sundari, Padma Bushan, Dr Saroja Vaidyanath and Padma Sri Shobhana Narayan added lot of glitter to our activities and Udbhav Sports and Cultural Association became a well known name in the fields of sports and culture. About 3000 new artists from various Indian cities also got opportunities to express themselves. Artists belonging to Gwalior, Delhi, Mumbai, Gurgaon, Chandigarh , Jammu, Aurangabad, Indore, Bhopal, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kolkata and Raipur have gone to various foreign countries like Greece, France, Russia, Italy, Spain, Israel, Iran , South Korea, China, Ukraine, Bulgaria to perform.
While Udbhav Utsav is a national level platform for classical dance, Udbhav Surtal is a national level platform for music. Late Ravindra Jain, Usha Mangeshkar, Sadhana Sargam, Pinaj Masani, Chandan Das, Purnima Roshan Bharati, Hema Sardesai and many such artists have contributed tremendously to the success of these platforms. Udbhav Maryadan, which was started in memory of Late Srimanth Madhav Rao Scindia is a national level platform for marathon race. National heroes like Kapil Dev, Late Milka Singh, Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bhindra , Olympian Sushil Kumar, cricketers, Gautam Gumbhir and Muhammad Kaif, shuttler Jwala Gutta among other did participate in this marathon. Their participation gave the marathon national as well as international identity.
